How can I get married in Jackson Square?

 Contact the New Orleans Parks and Parkways Dept. Their phone number is 504-658-3200, or you can email them at parksandparkways@cityofno.com. To rent inside the park you need to complete a form and pay a fee.  You need to rent chairs if needed for a large wedding up to 200 people. No food or drink is allowed in park, just the ceremony. A small wedding at the gate is free to use. Reception, food, drinks, at any of several places adjacent to the park.

 Alternate spots for small elopements are the gates to the Square and Pirates Alley. The cafe in the alley has restrooms, tables, refreshments for a small elopement in the alley or we can walk to an available gate to the Square. Gate on St. Peter St can be used for small weddings on a first come first serve basis. Schedule an appointment with Chaplain Schwehm to perform your elopement here. See www.figstreet.com/weddings for details. As many as 20 people can fit in this space or as few as you like. It is open and people do walk by but most stop to watch the wedding. Other more private spots are in the walk ways beside the church in Pirates Alley.

 Pirates Alley is the walk way next to the church. Several restaurants and cafes are on each corner of the Square.

David Gilmour Sings Sonnet 18

"Sonnet 18″ is perhaps the most famous of Shakespeare’s 154 sonnets. It was written in about 1595, and most scholars now agree the poem is addressed to a man. The sonnet is composed in iambic pentameter, with three rhymed quatrains followed by a concluding couplet:"

The Boatman's Ghost

I did my first wedding ceremony recently in the new Irish Cultural Museum at 933 Conti St, French Quarter, New Orleans. It has a beautiful patio with all the modern conveniences. A sound and light system,  and a cover that can go over the patio if weather is wet. While speaking with the manager I learned it was once the spot where New Orleans Philanthropist John McDonogh lived. And interestingly a ghost seems to visit the gate early each morning. Seems Mr. McDonogh had a boatman that would pick him up and row him across the river to his plantation there. He liked to travel when he wanted and not wait for the then ferry. The ghost boatman is said to stop by to ask for his pay as it is well known Mr McDonogh kept a lot more money in his pocket then he spent. But thanks to his will New Orleans and Baltimore schools got a windfall with his passing. I am never sure about all the ghosts in the Quarter but I can say this when I am there I see and hear a lot of strange things so I would not doubt if you stop by the gate to 933 Conti right before sun up you would see and hear things there like nowhere else.
