I do a lot of weddings in New Orleans but rarely do couples share the video taken. Here is one e-mailed me that I did recently. I have very short opening in the video but it a well done piece.

WEDDING CHECK LIST

12 MONTHS BEFORE THE WEDDING
Tell families you want to get married. Then have them meet each other.
Fully discuss type wedding, elopement, formal wedding, big, small, destination, etc..
Think budget! Discuss what is important and how much to spend on things..
Discuss with family who pays for what.
Create a wedding organizer (Binder, files, book). Use it to store all your information, contracts, ideas, photos, etc.
Speak with your clergy/officiant to learn what is expected and what to get done. Book facility and officiant if ready.
Visit wedding sites. Book if ready. Church, hall, hotel, home, get ideas off web.
For large wedding consider a wedding planner and talk with several to see who you can work with.

9 TO 11 MONTHS BEFORE THE WEDDING
Line up, interview, and visit wedding service providers.
Photographer
Videographer
Caterer or Restaurant
Officiant, Clergy if not already booked.
Florist, decorations, chairs
Contact ones you like, book them, get written agreement, many of these vendors can be booked up to a year in advance.
Develop your preliminary guest list. Base it on wedding size. Talk with family about who must be there.
Use web to get wedding ideas, style, type, colors, destination.
Finalize plans with family and friends who are helping.
Pick and list attendants (bridesmaids, groomsmen, ushers, flower girl and ring bear) . Notify them of selection and what is expected of them.
Select your wedding rings.
Begin looking at honeymoon, use web to find a nice place.
Consider and get wardrobe, gown, tux, dresses.

6 TO 8 MONTHS BEFORE THE WEDDING
Start planning ceremony and reception music choices.
Purchase your wedding gown,and accessories.
If you are having a prenuptial agreement, take care of that now.
Discuss ceremony with officiant, civil, religious, poems.
Start pre-marriage counceling (if required)
Start looking at invitations.
Sign up for your gift registry
Send save-the-date cards/newsletter

4 TO 5 MONTHS BEFORE THE WEDDING
Work with your florist on decorations.
Place wedding announcement in local newspaper
Order wedding stationary (invitations, envelopes, programs, etc.)
Start shopping for bridal party tuxedos
Book limo/transportation
Start planning the wedding decorations
Select hotel. Arrange accommodations for out of town guests, if necessary.
Select wedding cake (and Groom's cake if you are having one)
Start making arrangement for rehearsal and rehearsal dinner
Book anyone not already booked. Get agreements.
Decide on wedding favors and gifts for family attendants.
If you decided not to use a Wedding Coordinator, consider asking a close friend not in the wedding party to be your Wedding Coordinator/Personal Assistant.

3 MONTHS BEFORE THE WEDDING
Order your wedding cake and groom's cake
Meet with your officiant to discuss details of the ceremony
Finalize the guest list
Reconfirm the rehearsal dinner plans
Buy the cake knife, guest book, toasting glasses and garter
Choose gifts for your attendants, parents, helpers.
Have the male members of the wedding party, including fathers, fitted for tuxedos.
Reconfirm honeymoon arrangements.
Start writing your wedding vows, if you are doing them yourself.
Start addressing the invitations (or drop them off with calligrapher)

2 MONTHS BEFORE THE WEDDING
Send out invitations
Schedule a hair and make up consultation to do a trial run.
Start making/buying wedding favors
Obtain wedding license
Schedule your first wedding dress fitting.
Write thank you notes for any gifts that may start arriving.
If you are having one, begin putting together your ceremony program.
Meet with vendors (caterer, florists, etc.) to finalize arrangements.
If you are changing your name, complete the proper documents.
Finalize music selections for the ceremony and reception and turn them in to the DJ/Band/etc.
Have formal wedding portrait taken.

Meet with your officiant to finalize ceremony details.
Reserve room for wedding night.

1 MONTH BEFORE THE WEDDING
Confirm honeymoon your reservations.
Meet with photographer and/or videographer to discuss last minute details.

Have final wedding gown fitting.
Arrange for a reception babysitter, if needed.
Finish (and print) the wedding program.
Finalize wedding vows
Confirm all final payment amounts with your vendors as well as date, time, etc.
Pick up marriage license. Be sure to have needed documents and cash for the license.

2 WEEKS BEFORE THE WEDDING
Finalize reception seating chart.
Confirm delivery time and locations with florist.
Contact any guests who did not respond to the invitation.

1 WEEK BEFORE THE WEDDING
Pick up wedding gown, attendants' gowns and all accessories.
Give final guest count to reception venue/caterer.
Reconfirm everything with vendors one last time.
Make sure men get their final fitting for their tuxedos.

1 DAY BEFORE THE WEDDING
Attend rehearsal.
Attend rehearsal dinner. Give attendants their gifts.
Have a manicure and/or a pedicure.
Put together the tip envelopes (for the vendors) and give them to the designated "tip person" - generally the best man.
Confirm wedding day transportation.
Confirm hair and make up appointments.
If you have access to the ceremony and/or reception venues, bring everything over there that you may need (decorations, guest book, etc).
Layout everything you need for the next day in a safe place (marriage license, dress, shoes, etc.).
Speak with everyone in the wedding party and make sure everyone knows where to be at what time. Give them a list or program with times and places.
Try to go to bed early, rest up the day before.

YOUR WEDDING DAY
Relax, and eat. Stay calm.
Share a private moment with your fiance.
Have your hair and makeup done.
Give the best man the groom's ring and marriage license. He can give them when needed to officiant.
Begin dressing two hours before ceremony is scheduled to begin.
Spend time with parents before you go down aisle..

Growing up in New Orleans is full of memories of parks and places I played. City Park is big and a beautiful place. The WPA added bridges, walks, statues, fountains, and shelters there. The craftsmen who worked were all old world trained and it shows in their workmanship. This bridge and several smaller ones is made of stone. A rare commodity in my city. As a child we walked over it, fished from it, took pictures on it, kissed on it and later got married on it. All part of the fabric of New Orleans. I do a lot of weddings in the park and this is one of the spots.

Passing traffic should notify slower traffic that they are passing by voice, horn or bell.

Submit horses to a Coggins test (required for all horses on the Trace).

On the main trail, keep horses at a walk in the area designated for horses.

Wear safety equipment: helmets, kneepads, elbow and wrist guards are required for roller bladders.
Helmets for cyclists and horsemen are strongly recommended.

St. Tammany Parish is not responsible for injuries or improper or unsafe use of Tammany Trace

The wedding license runs about $30 and you can meet a former Justice of the Peace for as little as $95 on week days at his office. Weddings are often an extravagant affair, with much money, care, attention to detail and time being lavished on creating the ultimate day for the bride and groom. If you are an environmentally and socially conscious couple, you may like to consider sharing your eco-savvy and social awareness with your family and friends by actively demonstrating how it is possible to "green a wedding" and still maintain the essence of elegance and sophistication many expect from such an important event.

Steps

Make recycled invitations. The invitation and the envelope can be made from recycled paper. Better still, if you have the patience and ability, make your own paper and include pressed petals in the paper. Rather than printing the invitations, have a local calligrapher write them for you. This employs someone locally and the effect is stunning.
Use a green bridal registry. Some bridal registries have gone green - look for them online. Alternately, when you choose the items for a bridal registry, choose only eco-friendly items. If there is a store that sells a lot of eco-friendly items but it doesn't have a bridal registry, ask if they would mind setting one up for you. It might just be the impetus the store needs to do it regularly! Or, if you want the registry to be less focused on giving gifts to yourself and your new spouse, and more focused on directing resources toward those in greater need, you can consider having the registry be a list of donations to charitable causes. Tell your guests that, instead of giving you gifts, they should donate that money to a charity that protects the environment. There are many options. Consider a low-meat or meat-free reception menu. Meat production has a high environmental cost, and highlighting some delicious vegetarian choices at your wedding could give guests new ideas for different foods to try. Consider lots of vegan appetizer stations made with foods that even meat eaters consume on a daily basis.
Use digital cameras for your candid photos instead of disposable table cameras. In the United States alone, more than 24 million disposable cameras are used just once then thrown away each year. Developing those photos also requires a great deal of chemicals, which aren't exactly eco-friendly either. And they take very low quality photos. Consider using digital camera rental for your guests to take candid photos. The city of New Orleans has no Justice of the Peace, only the parishes next to the city. Having served as Justice of the Peace in the area north of the city of New Orleans for four years I performed a lot of weddings. As a non-denominational minister when I retired I started doing weddings in the French Quarter. Often I am asked to do a simple civil ceremony as I did as Justice of the Peace. My feee for a simple wedding near my home is a lot less then one in the French Quarter. My fee is based on date, time, and location. Driving to the French Quarter and parking gets expensive so a travel fee is charged. If the couple just want to get married I can do a simple civil ceremony near my home at a near by park or hotel. If you or someone you know just wants a simple ceremony contact me for info on a discount fee if they come to me rather then me going to them.

Can I Have A Friend Perform The Wedding Ceremony?

Sometimes I am asked if a friend can officiate the wedding. Most states require that a person who officiates a wedding be a minister or judge. That officiant also must be registered to perform weddings in the place the wedding is done. I have read on some web pages that you can have a friend "ordained" on the web, register, then perform the ceremony. That is a lot of paper work and risky at times so I offer to allow the friend participate in the ceremony avoiding the need to become a minister for a day. I find that when family and friends help out in a ceremony by either being a reader or master of ceremonies that the audience is more attentive. Just me standing there reciting things is not as entertaining as having a dear friend stand up and read a poem or tell a story. Grandparents are wonderful at that sort of thing. I do not think going through the paper work of an ordination for a day is necessary. The friend or family member can participate and assist in the ceremony and no risky web page ordination is necessary. I often tell couples be sure that the person doing the ceremony is registered and capable to avoid future issues like learning the friend gets too nervous to speak or somehow discover the marriage was not legal.

Often couples contact me as I have a web page that says you can get married for under $300 at a historic spot or a beautiful public park. They do not desire to go through the stress and planning of a large wedding with a lot of expense so they call and e-mail me about details of something simple, nice, but cheap. Over the last 15 years I have tried to help those couples out by finding nice spots where up to ten people can gather and we do a small wedding. Most public parks allow picnics and most elopements are actually smaller than a picnic. We find a spot, gather together and do a short legal wedding ceremony to comply with law and they are married. After that couples like to do something special. Some take a cruise or head to a nice restaurant or a carriage ride in the French Quarter. A simple elopement removes the stress and expense of a large wedding. I also do large weddings at many local places but have discovered a lot of couples would rather just get married in a nice spot but not a Court House.
Several lovely parks, the lake front, and other spots are available in New Orleans for elopements. I also have used several nice areas in the French Quarter and along the river. If the public can gather for a family function then a simple elopement is also allowed. If you have any questions e-mail for details.

	Tell families you want to get married. Then have them meet each other.
	Fully discuss type wedding, elopement, formal wedding, big, small, destination, etc..
	Think budget! Discuss what is important and how much to spend on things..
	Discuss with family who pays for what.
	Create a wedding organizer (Binder, files, book). Use it to store all your information, contracts, ideas, photos, etc.
	Speak with your clergy/officiant to learn what is expected and what to get done. Book facility and officiant if ready.

	Confirm delivery time and locations with florist.
	Contact any guests who did not respond to the invitation.

	Pick up wedding gown, attendants' gowns and all accessories.
	Give final guest count to reception venue/caterer.
	Reconfirm everything with vendors one last time.
	Make sure men get their final fitting for their tuxedos.

	Attend rehearsal.
	Attend rehearsal dinner. Give attendants their gifts.
	Have a manicure and/or a pedicure.
	Put together the tip envelopes (for the vendors) and give them to the designated "tip person" - generally the best man.
	Confirm wedding day transportation.
	Confirm hair and make up appointments.
	If you have access to the ceremony and/or reception venues, bring everything over there that you may need (decorations, guest book, etc).
	Layout everything you need for the next day in a safe place (marriage license, dress, shoes, etc.).
	Speak with everyone in the wedding party and make sure everyone knows where to be at what time. Give them a list or program with times and places.
	Try to go to bed early, rest up the day before.

	Relax, and eat. Stay calm.
	Share a private moment with your fiance.
	Have your hair and makeup done.
	Give the best man the groom's ring and marriage license. He can give them when needed to officiant.
	Begin dressing two hours before ceremony is scheduled to begin.
	Spend time with parents before you go down aisle..
